Summerhill Shuttle Service

DirtCraft, Summerhill Charitable Trust and Mountainbike Tauranga are looking into the plausibility of running a shuttle service at Summerhill.

At this stage we are looking into a 5 to 9 seater setup that would run at peak times throughout the year. The more interest we can get in this concept the more likely this concept will go ahead. We’re aiming to have 400 people join the waitlist by April 2025.

By joining the waitlist, you’ll go in the draw to be one of 10 people who gets a free shuttle pass (assuming the initiative goes ahead).

Multi-lap Endurance Relay Race

Its been a while since we’ve seen multi-lap endurance racing on the scene in the North Island. I’m not sure about you, but at DirtCraft we’re missing it and would like to bring it back. In order to do so we need to make sure we’ve got enough interest. This means 400 people on our waitlist by April 2025.

By joining the waitlist, you’ll go in the draw to be one of 10 people who gets a $50 off voucher for the first year we host this event (assuming the initiative goes ahead).

DirtCraft is looking to introduce Technical Skill Testing into New Zealand. This concept is well established in U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17 across Europe. We would look to focus on U13, U15 and U17.

Our vision:

Provide a skill testing procedure that is standardised and encourages skill acquisition by riders, puts them under pressure enabling riders to track their skill progress.

Objectives:

  1. Reasonably practicable standardised skills testing procedure.
  2. Various skills testing activities.
  3. Environment to put riders under pressure.
  4. Environment where riders have all the focus on them.
  5. Ranking system to seed races.

KPIs:

  1. Clear and easy to understand PDF of station instructions and follow from riders’ perspective.
  2. Clear and easy to understand from volunteers’ perspective.
  3. Repeatable and somewhat standardised.
  4. Results reflect skill ability.
  5. It is easy to roll out with minimal setup time and equipment.

Tauranga Cyclocross Series

In July 2024 we delivered the first every Cyclo-cross to the Tauranga region. Now we want to know if you want to see more?

We think there’s some great venues in our area including Summerhill (various course formats), Papamoa Pony Club, Sulphur Point, Cambridge Road BMX Track and more. We’re keen to put together a CX series in the future. In order to do this we need numbers!

Our plan is to run a one CX race in July/August 2025. If we can get 80+ registrations then we will look to implement at Series from 2026 onwards.

Please support this cause by joining the waitlist below to confirm the interest of DirtCraft hosting the 2025 CX event. We need 60 riders to express support by March 1st for the 2025 event to go ahead . Share it with your mates so we can reach our target.

If we reach our target of 60 then we will pursue the 2025 event. Assuming the event goes ahead, at random two riders who have expressed support will receive free entries.

Emergency Extraction Training

DirtCraft is looking to introduce Emergency Extraction Training for the MTB community. We are still in the early stages of this. But, due to the nature of MTB, the environment we participate in and frequency of incident, we feel that it is valuable to provide a educational service for the community to upskill their abilities in line with national standards so that people have the know how to respond to a serious incident.

We see this being valuable for all riders, parents, spectators, volunteers, events personnel and anyone else who is frequently in the outdoors. This would not be a formal qualification, but the participants would be able to walk away better prepared to respond to an incident and manage an extraction.

We intend this service to be partially theory, but primarily practical so you get to deal with real world scenarios, under pressure in varied environments. The Training session would be around 8 hours.

We are looking for expressions of support for this initiative. Our target is to have 60 people express support by December 2024 for us to pursue this initiative. If we go ahead with this initiative then 2 people who have expressed interest will receive a $70 discount on their first course.

If you would like to see this implemented please complete the expression of support below.
